United Kingdom: Scotland Wants Advice on Deep Geothermal Drilling

SEPA Consults on Geothermal and Deep Borehole Requirements (British Drilling Association)

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) is asking for comments on 2 public consultation areas:

  • SEPA's requirements for activities related to geothermal energy
More information and instructions on making comments........

SEPA is seeking views from from interested parties including drillers, consultants and developers involved in the construction and operation of deep boreholes on proposed new guidance. It especially wants to know if it adequately specifies and explains the information they require to assess a deep borehole application.

SEPA is also seeking views from from interested parties including drillers, consultants and developers involved in the geothermal energy schemes on proposed new guidance.  It especially wants to know if the guidance adequately specifies and explains the risks to the water environment and the authorization that is required under CAR.
